Dark mode icons are finally coming together
Samsung is finally working on dark app icons in One UI 8.5. Some apps are changing their background to black when dark mode is enabled. The icons have a 3D shadow in both light and dark modes. I will share the .png files of all the new icons, as many of them are yet undiscovered. pic.twitter.com/Y4lXWdFG7L

The more interesting part is that Samsung is experimenting beyond just switching the icon colors. We might see a new 3D look for the apps, with subtle depth and drop shadows. This aligns with earlier One UI 8.5 leaks that revealed floating elements and a more layered interface.
Samsung has another advantage this year: Google updated Play Store policy to require all developers to support themed icons, providing a mandatory monochrome version for Android to recolor. One UI 8.5 appears ready to make full use of that system-level consistency.
This matches Samsung’s new visual direction (and Apple’s too)
Some early testers of leaked builds say the new 3D elements still need refinement, and rendering them increases load slightly, but that’s expected at this stage, and the final build should be much smoother.
The first beta version of One UI 8.5 will become available to users on December 8
