They Even Spelled Aluminium Correctly!
Hackaday noticed, second hand, a new job posting at Alphabet looking for a Senior Product Manager to work on a “new Aluminium, Android-based, operating system.” There isn’t much detail about this new Aluminium OS, apart from the one thing you should expect from any new product these days. It will be designed with “Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the core”. What that means exactly is unclear but it could well make Microsoft’s Recall look tame by comparison.
It is likely to be aimed at a new generation of Chromebooks but due to the inherent extra costs of trying to support two different operating systems you should expect to see changes to Android based phones as well. Hopefully this doesn’t mean a complete end to Chromium OS, as there are a lot of Chromebooks out there that will need support. By their very nature they aren’t a device that gets replaced as frequently as your phone or an enthusiast’s desktop.
Hopefully the new OS doesn’t need a lot of RAM to run efficiently!
