Pennsylvania has sued the maker of Character.AI, alleging that it violated state law by presenting an AI chatbot character as a licensed doctor. The lawsuit was filed in a state court by the Pennsylvania Department of State and State Board of Medicine. “The department’s investigation found that AI chatbot characters on Character.AI claimed to be licensed medical professionals, including psychiatrists, available to engage users in conversations about mental health symptoms,” Governor Josh Shapiro’s office said today in an announcement of the lawsuit. “In one instance, a chatbot falsely stated it was licensed in Pennsylvania and provided an invalid license number.”…

NASA’s Juno spacecraft captured this view of Thebe, the second largest of Jupiter’s inner moons, during a close pass on May 1, 2026. The spacecraft’s Stellar Reference Unit (SRU) captured this image from a distance of approximately 3,100 miles (5,000 kilometers) at a resolution of about 1.9 miles (3 kilometers) per pixel. Thebe resides at the outer edge of Jupiter’s faint ring system and is believed to play a role in the formation of the planet’s “gossamer” ring through the shedding of dust. While the SRU’s primary function is to image star fields for navigation, its high sensitivity in low-light…

Microsoft announced plans to start stripping Copilot out of select Windows apps in March after criticism of the company’s mishandling of its operating system reached a fever pitch. As it turns out though, Windows isn’t the only place where you’ll see less Copilot: Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has announced that the AI assistant will also be removed from the gaming brand’s mobile app and Xbox consoles. Under previous Xbox leadership, Copilot was introduced as a sort of in-game assistant that would be aware of what you’re playing and able to offer contextual advice based on what’s on your screen. Microsoft…

The entries cited during the trial were written between 2015, when OpenAI was founded, and 2023, when Brockman and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman were briefly ousted as leaders over the OpenAI board’s alleged safety concerns. Musk hopes the diary entries paint Brockman as a money-hungry executive who, early on, cared little about OpenAI’s mission. To overcome that characterization of his mindset in OpenAI’s early days, Brockman has the challenging task of convincing the court that, instead, they show the opposite: displaying the careful musings of the person who is perhaps most committed to OpenAI’s mission. Brockman likened to “bank robber”…

Saros is easier than Returnal, but not by a lot, and most certainly not at first. The spiritual successor to Housemarque’s first tough-as-nails roguelike shooter has modifiers that you will eventually unlock that let you alter aspects of the difficulty, but they can’t be used willy-nilly. You have to balance buffs and debuffs so the game deems its challenge level adequate. So what trials and protections should you use? While it will depend on your playstyle, here’s a few switches I recommend flipping if you’re having trouble fighting your way through Carcosa. Protections Damage Enhancement and Armor Enhancement In terms…

On the morning of May 5, 1961, the Mercury-Redstone 3 launch vehicle lifted into the sky from Cape Canaveral, Florida, carrying astronaut Alan B. Shepard Jr. Over the next 15 minutes, Shepard ascended to an altitude of 116 miles (187 kilometers) in his Freedom 7 spacecraft, becoming the first American to fly into space before splashing down in the Atlantic Ocean. This short flight marked the United States’ entry into human spaceflight and was a defining first step that would carry the nation to the Moon just eight years later. Sixty-five years later, as NASA accelerates the pace for the…

In August 2017, Greg Brockman and Ilya Sutskever gathered at Elon Musk’s self-described “haunted mansion,” a 47-acre, $23 million estate in Hillsborough, south of San Francisco, to discuss the future of OpenAI. Actor Amber Heard, Musk’s then-girlfriend, had served the group whiskey and then dashed off with a friend, Brockman, OpenAI’s cofounder and president, testified in federal court during the trial for Musk v. Altman on Tuesday.Ahead of the meeting, Musk gifted Brockman and Sutskever, OpenAI’s cofounder and former chief scientist, new Tesla Model 3 cars. “It felt like he was buttering us up,” Brockman said on the stand. “He…

Saros is the spiritual successor to Returnal, a game so challenging that many players bounced off of it without seeing it through to the end, prompting developer Housemarque to make a conscious decision to give players the option to make its next game easier. Mechanically, the games are very similar, but Saros’ persistent progression systems and shorter runs do give players a decidedly less grueling challenge. WhileHousemarque anticipates that this might upset people who considered beating Returnal a badge of honor, the team wants more people to experience its brand of bullet-hell psychological horror. “When it clicks, it’s something unlike…
