Game characters have come a long way in the last few years, but Genies — the company best known for its ultra-stylized digital avatars — is kicking that evolution into high gear. After announcing a partnership with Unity this summer, the company has begun rolling out its first set of tools to developers: the Genies Avatar SDK, now available on the Unity Asset Store. The process is exceptionally easy: Drop this package into your project, and suddenly your game can support high-fidelity, fully customizable player avatars that persist across any game built using the Unity dev engine and that plugs…
OpenAI is in a far less commanding position than it was following the public release of ChatGPT a few short years ago.Back in 2022, the sudden popularity of ChatGPT sent Google into a panic. It then rushed out Bard, announcing its first commercial chatbot on February 6, 2023. Google’s stock tanked days later when the AI…

Odlin confirms that for all of the Icelandic wood-chip ocean deposits, it was impossible for Running Tide to monitor the wood chips for more than three hours after their release, saying, “We couldn’t measure signal from noise in the ocean on the alkalinity.”The Dead ZoneDespite having sold credits to Stripe, Shopify, Microsoft, and the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, financial pressures on Running Tide continued to mount as the flow of funds from Silicon Valley dried up. Rogue has always been one of my favorite X-Men thanks to the X-Men Evolution animated series and the Fox movies I grew up with (justice for Anna Paquin!), and I was curious how Marvel Rivals would balance a hero with unlimited possibilities for a competitive game. Now that we’ve finally seen her in action, it’s clear NetEase just made her a comic-accurate powerhouse, and fans are terrified of the power-siphoning hero’s abilities. For those not steeped in X-Men knowledge, Rogue is a mutant with the ability to absorb people’s memories, personality, and powers at the slightest touch. Typically, this exchange…
Rockstar Games may have to answer for what appears to be union-busting behavior. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, under pressure from parliament, said the government will “look into” the firing of 31 employees in October. The sacked workers were all part of a private trade union chat group on Discord. The company claimed the firings were “for gross misconduct” and accused the workers of sharing confidential information outside of the company. But based on what we know, it’s hard to see that characterization as anything but union-busting in search of legal cover. The Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB) described the…

In 1993, Mike Lawson, an aerospace entrepreneur based in Roswell, Georgia, unveiled his vision for a brave new future of advertising: space billboards. This wasn’t a half-baked scheme: Lawson had meticulous plans for a proposed 1996 launch: His team of engineers would shoot a package of tightly-wound mylar into orbit about 180 miles above the Earth. Once there, the material would unfurl into a thin, reflective sheet up to a mile long and a quarter mile tall, bordered by a series of mylar tubes which would…

And the next Dragon supply mission after this, CRS-35, has been advanced three months from November to August.
