Some have questioned how much thought was put into the policy, as the US confusingly continues restricting less advanced AI chips (like the A100 and H100) while green-lighting H200 sales. Trump’s Justice Department also seems to be struggling to keep up. The NYT noted that just “hours before” Trump announced the policy change, the DOJ announced “it had detained two people for selling those chips to the country.” The chair of the Select Committee on Competition with China, Rep. John Moolenaar (R-Mich.), warned on X that the news wouldn’t be good for the US or Nvidia. First, the Chinese Communist…

Evidence uncovered in a field in Suffolk, England indicates that ancient humans intentionally harnessed fire more than 350,000 years earlier than previously believed. According to a British Museum-led study published on December 10 in the journal Nature, our Paleolithic Neanderthal ancestors utilized technology like hearths and campfires as much as 400,000 years ago. “The implications are enormous,” British Museum project curator and study coauthor Rob Davis said in a statement. “The ability to create and control fire is one of the most important turning points in…
Ever since reporting earlier this year on how easy it is to trick an agentic browser, I’ve been following the intersections between modern AI and old-school scams. Now, there’s a new convergence on the horizon: hackers are apparently using AI prompts to seed Google search results with dangerous commands. When executed by unknowing users, these commands prompt computers to give the hackers the access they need to install malware. The warning comes by way of a recent report from detection-and-response firm Huntress. Here’s how it works. First, the threat actor has a conversation with an AI assistant about a common search…
Powering all your essentials at the same time does not have to be complicated. If you use multiple devices on a regular basis – smartphone to stay connected with family, laptop to work remotely, headphones to vibe to your favorite tunes, PC for demanding tasks – you need a solution that can keep all of those up and running in one go while also managing the cord clutter. Anker makes some of our favorite charging solutions, and today is a great time to pick one up. The 240W 8-in-1 USB-C power strip, which usually retails for $130, can now be…
From left to right: the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, the updated Kindle Scribe, and the lower-end Scribe without a front-lit screen. Credit: Amazon Our review of the regular Kindle Colorsoft came away less than impressed, because there was only so much you could do with color on a small-screened e-reader that didn’t support pen input, and because it made monochrome text look a bit worse than it did on the regular Kindle Paperwhite. The new Scribe Colorsoft may have some of the same problems, which are mostly inherent to color e-ink technology as it exists today, but a larger screen will…

After 245 days in orbit aboard the International Space Station (ISS), one NASA astronaut and two cosmonauts have safely returned to Earth. NASA’s Jonny Kim along with Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Ryzhikov and Alexey Zubritsky landed near the town of Zhezkazgan, Kazakhstan on December 9, and are now undergoing the standard post-mission health screenings. Sony just announced December’s Game Catalog additions for PS Plus subscribers and it’s a pretty decent lineup. All of these titles will be ready to play on December 16, except Skate Story which is already available.Speaking of Skate Story, it’s a really weird skateboarding sim that’s set in a glass-covered world. The reviews have been positive, with many people praising the outlandish story, surreal locations and the satisfying trick mechanics. It’s made by Sam Eng, who was behind the indie shooter Zarvot. This new game is only available for PS5 subscribers.Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be available for both PS4 and…
Basic computing needs haven’t changed much over the years, and most people don’t need gaming rigs to handle their daily digital lives. Email, web browsing, video streaming, and video calls represent the bulk of what typical users do with their laptops, and the Lenovo V15 G2 handles these tasks without breaking a sweat or your budget. This 15.6-inch machine packs enough power (8GB DDR4 RAM, 256GB PCIe SSD, WiFi 6) for anyone who needs a reliable Windows 11 laptop for everyday productivity and entertainment. The good news is that Amazon has just slashed the price to a record low of…
In a surprising, and likely temporary, turn of events, the number of people paying to watch cable channels has grown. On Monday, research analyst MoffettNathanson released its “Cord-Cutting Monitor Q3 2025: Signs of Life?” report. It found that the pay TV operators, including cable companies, satellite companies, and virtual multichannel video programming distributors (vMVPDs) like YouTube TV and Fubo, added 303,000 net subscribers in Q3 2025. According to the report, “There are more linear video subscribers now than there were three months ago. That’s the first time we’ve been able to say that since 2017.” In Q3 2017, MoffettNathanson reported…

Case in point: The Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards, a delightful dive into the silliness of the animal kingdom. The preeminent wildlife photography competition for wacky and whimsical animals announced its winners and the results don’t disappoint. UK-based photographer Mark Meth-Cohn earned top honors for his photograph “High Five” (seen below) that documents the silly escapades of a young male gorilla in the Virunga Mountains of Rwanda. “High Five”Overall WinnerCredit: Mark Meth-Cohn / Nikon…
