CES doesn’t start until January, but whispers of the products and announcements that could be in store for tech’s biggest annual conference have already started to take shape. The CES 2026 show floor is officially open from January 6 through 9, although the show kicks off with events on Sunday January 4 and a host of press conferences on Monday. As always, product demos, announcements and networking will be happening at the Las Vegas Convention Center and surrounding hotels all over the city. As usual, Engadget will be covering the event in-person and remotely, bringing you news and hands-ons straight…
When you finish Dispatch, AdHoc’s episodic adventure game will try to sum up your playthrough, Spotify Wrapped style. My version of protagonist Robert Robertson III was summed up as an unpredictable “everyman” who kept everyone guessing. There are a number of these potential descriptors you can receive, and apparently, even a month after the game’s finale was released, there’s one that no player has yet obtained. AdHoc is starting to get concerned that it could be a bug. In an interview with Eurogamer, AdHoc co-founder Nick Herman explained that while many players have received three of the potential personality summaries,…
Other ranchers told ProPublica they’ve been able to stay on their land and preserve their way of life by leasing to solar. Landon Kesler’s family, which raises cattle for team roping competitions, has leased land to solar for more than a decade. The revenue has allowed the family to almost double its land holdings, providing more room to ranch, Kesler said. “I’m going to be quite honest, it’s absurd,” Kesler said of efforts to limit solar on agricultural land. “Solar very directly helped us tie up other property to be used for cattle and ranching. It didn’t run us out;…
More than 5,000 years ago, burrowing bees made their homes inside heaps of rodent bones buried in a cave on Hispaniola, the Caribbean island that comprises the Dominican Republic and Haiti, a new fossil study suggests. The bees encountered the bones while digging to their preferred depth in the soil. They stopped to build nests inside tooth and vertebra cavities, which turned out to be the perfect size, researchers found. Most of the bones the scientists recovered were from hutias — chunky rodents that look like a cross between squirrels and beavers — but a handful were the remains of an…
Netflix has inked a deal with iHeartMedia to begin showing video podcasts, so the content will never, ever run out. The partnership covers new episodes from more than 15 popular podcasts, including The Breakfast Club, Dear Chelsea, My Favorite Murder and others. Customers will have access to video podcast episodes in early 2026.In addition to new footage, the partnership includes a select library of archival episodes from each show. It’s worth noting that YouTube already platforms video versions of many popular podcasts, including stuff like The Breakfast Club. This follows a similar deal from earlier this year in which Netflix announced…
If you can take your mind way back to the beginning of 2025, you might remember a fresh wave of rumors suggesting that Half-Life 3 was finally reaching the final stages of production, and could be announced and/or released at any moment. Now, though, 2025 seems set to come to a close without any official news of a game fans have been waiting literal decades for. That doesn’t necessarily mean a Half-Life 3 announcement and/or release isn’t imminent, though. On the contrary, veteran journalist Mike Straw insisted on a recent Insider Gaming podcast that “everybody I’ve talked to are still…
Is Final Fantasy VII Remake running at 30fps on Switch 2 disappointing or good enough? Is the Game Awards bump really worth an estimated $12 million in new sales? And just how long will fans have to wait for Terminator: Survivors to come out of its self-imposed indefinite delay? It’s the latest edition of Morning Checkpoint, Kotaku‘s daily roundup of gaming news and culture. We’re just beginning to wrap up our year-in-review coverage here, but my heart is already looking past the upcoming holidays to my favorite time of year: backlog season. I’m making a list, checking it twice—am I…
The same historic facilities that some 50 years ago prepared NASA’s twin Voyager probes for their ongoing interstellar odyssey are helping to ready a towering commercial spacecraft for a journey to the Moon. Launches involve brutal shaking and astonishingly loud noises, and testing in these facilities mimics those conditions to help ensure mission hardware can survive the ordeal. The latest spacecraft to get this treatment are Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost Mission 2 vehicles, set to launch to the Moon’s far side next year. The Environmental Test Laboratory at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California is where dozens of robotic…

“If data centers end up providing less business to the utility companies than anticipated, consumers could be left with massive electricity bills as utility companies recoup billions in new infrastructure costs, with nothing to show for it,” senators wrote. Already, Utah, Oregon, and Ohio have passed laws “creating a separate class of utility customer for data centers which includes basic financial safeguards such as upfront payments and longer contract length,” senators noted, and Virginia is notably weighing a similar law. At least one study, The New York Times noted, suggested that data centers may have recently helped reduce electricity costs…
