Down comforter deals are usually easier to find during the warmest months of the year, but we’ve rustled up a few worth your while before it gets too bitterly cold outside. Down comforters are some of my very favorite products to test. I live in northern Illinois, and around this time of year it’s usually either snowing, dangerously cold, or both. (This week, I have temperatures of negative-10 degrees Fahrenheit to look forward to.) Tack on my generally low iron levels, and I’m basically always chilly. I have tried several blankets for our down comforter buying guide in my day-to-day…

NASA is helping shape the future of urban air travel with a new simulation that will manage how electric air taxis and drones can successfully operate within busy areas.   The demonstration, held at NASA’s Ames Research Center in California’s Silicon Valley earlier this year, focused on a system called the Strategic Deconfliction Simulation, which helps coordinate flight plans before takeoff, reducing the risk of conflicts in busy urban environments  At the event, researchers demonstrated NASA’s Situational Viewer and Demand-Capacity Balancing Monitor, which visualizes air traffic and adjusts flight plans in real time. The simulation demonstrated traffic scenarios involving drone operations…

Uber is rolling out kiosks for travelers to book rideshares without using the mobile app. The company is pitching the service as a convenience for international travelers who may not have a data plan, but it could also be a lifesaver if your phone runs out of juice and you don’t have a way to recharge it. A passenger can use the kiosk to enter their destination and desired ride type, then will receive a printed receipt with the details about their booked ride. The first kiosk will debut in Terminal C at LaGuardia Airport in New York City, but…

Fresh off Steam banning horror game Horses from its platform, another game has announced that it is canceling its planned release on the storefront due to Valve’s “policy requirements.” BrownDust2, a very NSFW gacha game, will no longer be coming to Valve’s PC platform. In a statement on the game’s official website, Neowiz and GAMFSN announced that, after some internal debate, the companies have decided not to release the game on Steam. The post itself is vague on details, and we’ve reached out for comment on the specifics of the issue, but the makers have decided that whatever the game…

All of this works seamlessly on Android, but the experience might look different on iOS and require some additional permissions.“To get battery stats on iOS is a bit of a dance, because Apple doesn’t make it available via any APIs,” Wiens wrote in an email. “There actually are APIs, but they won’t approve your app if you use them. We should give them a hard time about this.”Amusingly, iFixit has limited what the bot can respond to, and it quickly pushes you away from any topic that’s not focused on repair. I asked FixBot if I should get a divorce…

X-ray: NASA/CXC/Univ. of Chicago/H. McCall Galaxy clusters are the most massive objects in the universe held together by gravity, containing up to several thousand individual galaxies and huge reservoirs of superheated, X-ray-emitting gas. The mass of this hot gas is typically about five times higher than the total mass of all the galaxies in galaxy clusters. In addition to these visible components, 80% of the mass of galaxy clusters is supplied by dark matter. These cosmic giants are bellwethers not only for the galaxies, stars and black holes within them, but also for the evolution and growth of the universe…

Geoff Keighley may not be opening a portal to hell after all. Roleplaying game fans have desperately linked The Game Awards’ hell statue to a new trademark application filed Tuesday and reported by games publication MP1ST. A law firm filed a European trademark application on Tuesday under the name Divinity, and the symbol in the accompanying stylized graphic certainly does look familiar. Two other trademark applications, showing similar imagery, were filed alongside the Divinity one. One looks to be of a person tied up in a spiderweb, and the other has a striking similarity, again, to the symbol overlaid on the Game Awards…

OpenAI, Anthropic, and Block have cofounded a new open source organization—the Agentic AI Foundation—to promote standards for artificial intelligence agents. The three companies are also transferring ownership of some widely used agentic technologies over to the foundation. This includes Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol (MCP), which allows agents to connect and interact; OpenAI’s Agents.md, which lets programs and websites specify rules for coding agents; and Goose, a framework for building agents developed by Block. These technologies were already free to use, but through the new foundation it will be possible for others to contribute to their development.“MCP is used by many companies,…

In 1987, a worker lit a cigarette by a new water well near the village of Bourakebougou in Mali. But as he did, an explosion reverberated inside the well. We now know this was due to previously undetected clouds of flammable hydrogen wafting from a gas reservoir beneath the hole. The well was plugged and temporarily abandoned. Then, in 2011, the oil and gas company Petroma (which later became Hydroma) uncemented it to examine whether they could extract hydrogen for profit. By 2012, the company had developed the well to make electricity for Bourakebougou, and the village still relies on this hydrogen…
