A video game composer has harsh words for genAI. 2K Games is already delisting its surprisingly decent Lego racer from 2023. And Arc Raiders is moving to fewer, bigger updates each year. It’s the latest edition of Checkpoint for May 15, 2026, where I wish I was living my best life like Food4Dogs. We are short-handed this week, which is why I missed multiple editions of our daily roundup over the last few days, as well as our weekly list of new games coming out. Expect things to be back on track next week when both Carolyn Petit and Rebekah…

Can you believe that later this summer it will have been 10 years since Samsung released the Galaxy Note 7, a real looker that turned out to be a real cooker. After several units exploded and caught on fire, the phone was banned from commercial aircraft, and Samsung ended up recalling the phone twice. The first time the manufacturer changed the battery, and when that didn’t stop the issue, the phone was taken off the market for good.Remember when the Galaxy Note 7 was the biggest tech story of the moment? It is hard to believe that a decade has gone…

For more than a year, Tesla has shielded details about its robotaxi crashes from public view. Now, the company has published new details in a federal database about 17 incidents, which took place between July 2025 and March 2026. In at least two of them, Tesla’s human employees appear to have played a hand in the crashes by remotely driving the otherwise autonomous cars into objects on the street. In both crashes, which happened in Austin, “safety monitors” were in the vehicles’ passenger seats to oversee the still-fledgling self-driving tech, and no passengers were riding in the cars. Both crashes occurred…

I don’t really play Fortnite outside of a brief lapse in judgment when the KPop Demon Hunters collaboration went live last year, but I play a lot of Overwatch. As such, I’ve seen Tracer and her skin-tight suit countless times, and know exactly what her ass looks like. Or at least, I thought I did. Now that she and some other Overwatch heroes are in Epic’s battle royale, I’m questioning my memory of every time I’ve seen it, because why is it so goddamn voluptuous in Fortnite? My lesbian queen, act in queer solidarity and tell me the glute routine.…

Consider Doing The Exact Opposite Of What Your Internal ‘Experts’ Suggest? Microsoft is getting much better at reversing course; not so much at initially making wrong turns.  The latest about face involves their Chrome download tool, also known as Microsoft Edge.  It was recently revealed that Edge helpfully loaded your saved passwords into memory in plain text when you start the browser up and kept there even when Edge is closed.  To be fair that is rather hard to shut Edge down in Windows 11, as it loves to run in the background no matter what.  This makes storing saved…

I’m writing to you from Dali, a city in China’s Yunnan province nicknamed “Dalifornia” because of its reputation as a haven for burned-out tech workers, artists, and wanderers looking to disappear for a while.I couldn’t be much further from the spectacle happening in Beijing, where US President Donald Trump was making his first state visit to China since 2017. Here, my DiDi driver softly sings along to old karaoke ballads as we pass rice fields and mist-covered mountains. Dali isn’t the version of China most foreign visitors imagine when they think of megacities filled with gleaming skyscrapers, high-speed trains, and…

Uwe Boll, the filmmaker-turned-restaurateur who recently, unfortunately, returned to filmmaking, is the man behind several famously bad adaptations of beloved video game properties, including Alone in the Dark, BloodRayne, Postal, and Far Cry. Although Boll promised to retire in 2016, following the release of Rampage: President Down, he is now threatening a directorial return, as he’s just announced 23 Years Later — The Castle of the Dead: an “unofficial sequel” to his 2003 travesty House of the Dead. As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, Boll’s decision to come out of retirement is apparently the fault of Paul W. S. Anderson,…
