If you read any of WIRED’s recent AI edition, you know that lots of people are spending lots of time talking about how the technology is revolutionizing pretty much everything—from coding to writing to accounting. You’ve also probably heard by now, from us or somebody else, that we might very well be in an economic bubble of AI origin, one wherein the billions and billions of dollars being funneled into the industry is creating an untenable economic scenario that could turn catastrophic.Of course, you may also have read that I’m really sick of being asked about AI. I’m still not…
An astrophotographer has snapped a stunning shot of the interstellar visitor 3I/ATLAS photobombing a distant galaxy in the night sky. The remarkable image, which also captured the comet’s multiple tails, is a reminder of the object’s otherworldly nature — but that doesn’t mean it was made by aliens, the photographer insists.Satoru Murata, a New Mexico-based photographer who has previously worked on multiple astronomical research projects, captured the new image using a 0.2-meter (0.7 feet) telescope on Sunday (Nov. 16) shortly before sunrise. It shows a familiar green glow coming from 3I/ATLAS’s coma, along with the comet’s long ion tail and…

Stella Sora, a new gacha game from Yostar, the developer behind games like Arknights, Blue Archives, and Heaven Burns Red, only launched a month ago and is already apologizing for its first big controversy. No, it’s not about microtransactions or a bad character design, as often happens with gacha games. Instead, it’s because a character allegedly made an infamous penis-pinching gesture called “crab hand.” While the pinch gesture has been used to signal a small size or portion of something forever, it’s also been used in the Korean feminist movement Megalia to insinuate someone has a small dick. Some men…
Meta has successfully avoided what was once the biggest existential threats to its company. A federal judge has sided with the social media company in a landmark antitrust case, ruling on Tuesday that the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) had not proven that Meta is a monopoly. The FTC filed antitrust charges against Meta, then known as Facebook, in 2020 during President Donald Trump’s first term. The government had argued that by acquiring its one-time rivals, Instagram and WhatsApp, the company had hurt US consumers by stifling competition in the social media industry. Meta had argued that those services were only able…
There’s no shortage of choice when it comes to email apps, and given that Google, Microsoft, and Apple all offer perfectly capable email services free of charge, the less well-known alternatives can often get largely ignored. It’s quicker and easier to just stick with the defaults. However, if you do take time to look at some of the smaller email platforms that are available, you’ll find plenty in the way of useful features. You might even find you’re tempted to switch over, not least because these alternatives are less interested in collecting your data or keeping you locked into a particular…

A Symphony of Robotic Motion – Collaboration Between Caltech & TII – YouTube Watch On Caltech engineers have developed a multimodal robot system — a humanoid robot with a transforming drone that launches off its back.Sitting on the back of the humanoid robot, a Unitree G1 machine, the drone, called M4, can transform — switching between driving and flight modes. We’re not talking Optimus Prime or Megatron here; instead, the drone-expelling bot is more like Soundwave, a Decepticon that housed different, mini transformers, like drones, in its chest. The system is the culmination of a three-year collaboration between Caltech’s Center for…
