Garmin just launched the Approach J1, a golf smartwatch built specifically for junior players. It’s now available worldwide and designed to fit smaller wrists with a slim, lightweight body.

The watch includes features that make sense for younger golfers. There’s a simplified display and a visual timer that shows the recommended pace of play. The tee-off guidance adjusts based on the player’s ability, and you can change the par to match their skill level. It also suggests which clubs to use and shows celebratory animations. Kids can record their scores directly on the watch, which then syncs to the Garmin Golf smartphone app. The device comes with over 43,000 golf courses already loaded.

The Approach J1 works for other activities too. It tracks walking, running, and cycling with GPS distance monitoring. Standard smartwatch features include a step counter, alarm clock, timer, and stopwatch.
The display is a 1.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen with 390 x 390 pixel resolution. You can turn on an always-on mode if you want. Battery life lasts up to 10 days in regular watch mode or 15 hours when using GPS.

Two color combinations are available: Blue/Black with a black ComfortFit textile strap and Silver/Purple with a purple ComfortFit textile strap.
Pricing & availability
The Approach J1 goes on sale January 23rd for $299.99 in the US, £309.99 in the UK, and €349.99 in Europe.
