The iPhone is turning 20 in 2027 and Apple will mark the anniversary with a special iPhone 20 release. We’ve already heard about the big redesign with its sloping display bezels that are supposed to make the device look like a single piece of glass when viewed from the front. We now get an additional report that suggests some major camera upgrades as well.
The 2027 iPhone model – likely the Pro variant will reportedly bring Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor (LOFIC) camera sensor. In short, this means the cameras will capture more light per pixel, leading to higher dynamic range and better overall image quality.

Huawei already implemented an LOFIC sensor on its Pura 80 Ultra. Apple will be joined by the top-five Chinese makers – Xiaomi, Huawei, Honor, Oppo, and vivo, who are also rumored to bring LOFIC camera tech to their flagships.
In related news, the iPhone 18 Pro Max is rumored to get a variable aperture for its main camera. Tipster Digital Chat Station shared alleged supply chain information which corroborates earlier rumors about the iPhone 18 Pro series gaining the feature but we now get clarification that it will be exclusive to the larger 18 Pro Max model. The new tip also suggests a larger fixed aperture for the 18 Pro Max’s 48MP periscope lens.
