In a growing field of copycat Soulslikes, Lies of P stands apart as one of the best. This year’s Overture DLC proved it wasn’t a fluke. Now, the publisher behind the Pinocchio-punk action-RPG has confirmed it has a whopping five games currently in various stages of development and only one of them is Lies of P 2.
The South Korean mobile gaming giant Neowiz’s upcoming slate was outlined in its latest earnings report as part of a multi-phase plan. The first phase revolves around a handful of new mobile games and published projects coming next year. The second phase is much more ambitious and outlines several PC and console projects from different genres aimed at driving “global expansion.” Here’s how they’re listed:
- Life Simulation New Project – Life Simulation – PC/Console
- Survival Action Adventure New Project – Survival Action Adventure – PC/Console
- Lies of P Sequel – Souls-like RPG – PC/Console
- New Project by Seungho Jin – Narrative-based RPG – PC/Console
- New Project by Kay Lee – Souls-like RPG – PC/Console
The life sim and survival action games seem pretty self-explanatory. Seungho Jin directed the anime-style visual novel Buried Stars, though it sounds like his new game will push more into RPG territory. Maybe something in the vein of a turn-based Atlus game? Lies of P was made by in-house subsidiary Game8. It’s unclear if they’ll be involved in this second Soulslike RPG or Kay Lee will be leading a completely separate team.
Hopefully, most of these projects comes out and at least some of them are good. It’s interesting to see more South Korea-based publishers and developers move into bigger, single-play PC and console releases. It suggests the success of games like Lies of P and Stellar Blade has proven there are lucrative opportunities outside of free-to-play grinds and gacha casinos. Though it’ll probably be several years yet before we see the next wave.
