Meizu has officially cancelled the launch of the Meizu 22 Air. The announcement came during the company’s 2026 Meizu Fan Spring Festival event in China. The Meizu Group CMO Wan Zhiqiang confirmed that the recent surge in memory prices had created major obstacles in smartphone business planning, which ultimately led to the cancellation.

Despite this, Meizu revealed the design of the 22 Air during the event. The smartphone features a horizontally aligned rear camera layout with a design that resembles the iPhone Air. It includes a customizable pixel-style emotion light that can display multiple patterns to reflect the user’s mood.
The phone’s frame includes a two-stage customizable mode button. Meizu also designed new system themes tailored for fans who value visual personalization. The company described the Meizu 22 Air as a lightweight device with a bold modular structure.
The back panel features a PIN-based modular design that allows support for various accessories. These include a snap-on battery pack for extended use, a cooling and gaming controller module, and an external camera unit for long-range photography.

The company also showcased a magnetic back cover concept that would allow users to swap covers to change the phone’s appearance. Meizu said the interchangeable covers were designed to support collaborations with popular IPs.
Alongside the cancelled smartphone, Meizu introduced a new AI-focused product called the Meizu 22 Next AI Cube. The compact device features a 4-inch form factor and functions as a standalone 5G-enabled AI terminal. It runs on AIOS and emphasizes voice-driven automation, cross-agent collaboration, and compatibility with standard apps.
Meizu said the AI Cube also places strong emphasis on emotional AI, multi-device control through its One-Flow ecosystem, and support for modular accessories. Pricing and availability details for the AI Cube were not announced at the event.
