Nintendo Switch 2 Piranha Plant Camera Discounted To Best Price Yet

Both of the officially licensed Hori cameras for Nintendo Switch 2 are on sale for great prices at multiple retailers. The adorable Piranha Plant Camera is discounted to $32–almost half its original cost–at Amazon, Walmart, and Target. Hori’s compact USB Camera is up for grabs for only $25 (was $35) at Amazon-owned retailer Woot.

Hori’s Switch 2 cameras have modular designs that allow them to be used in docked mode as well as handheld and tabletop modes. This is a nice perk that isn’t offered by the official Switch 2 Camera. That said, the first-party camera has noticeably better video quality. You can read about all three cameras below. Hori’s cameras aren’t the only officially licensed Switch 2 accessories on sale right now; we’ve included deals on controllers and carrying cases at the bottom of this story.

    $32 (was $40) | Launch price was $60

Hori’s Piranha Plant Camera makes for a very cute display piece for Super Mario fans. It even has the Switch 2 logo on the warp pipe. But there is a rather big downside to this officially licensed camera: It only supports 480p resolution, 30 fps, and an 85-degree viewing angle, so it’s a marked downgrade from a technical perspective compared to the camera made by Nintendo.

That said, it looks very cool and has some neat features. The neck is bendable, so the camera lens can be adjusted to a greater degree than the first-party camera. It can also be used in handheld and tabletop modes by detaching the neck from the warp pipe base and plugging it directly into the top USB-C port on the console. It might remind you of the days when you plugged a worm light into a Game Boy.

If you want to block the camera lens, you can simply close the Piranha Plant’s mouth. The camera comes with a USB-C cable to connect to the dock and a 3.5mm stereo right-angle adapter.

The Piranha Plant Camera launched alongside the Switch 2 for $60, but Hori has since permanently dropped the price to $40.

If you mainly want this because it’d double as a cool decoration, it’s worth noting that the 540-piece Lego Super Mario Piranha Plant is on sale for only $36 (was $60) at Amazon, Walmart, and Target.

    $25 (was $35) | Launch price was $60

The Hori USB Camera has the same tech specs as the Piranha Plant and can also be detached from its base and used in tabletop/handheld modes via the USB-C port on the top of the console. Since it’s more compact than the Piranha Plant, it can’t be adjusted as freely, but it still has a bendable neck and lens cover.

The Hori USB Camera started out at $60 in June, but Hori also dropped the price of this one. It now regularly sells for five bucks less than the Piranha Plant–though you’ll save a bit more if you snag the $25 deal at Woot.

Like the Piranha Plant, the officially licensed Hori USB Camera comes with a USB-C cable to connect the base to the dock as well as a 3.5mm stereo right-angle audio adapter.

    $54

The official Nintendo Switch 2 Camera isn’t on sale–unless you count the $1 discount at Amazon and Walmart–but we’re mentioning it here because it has a 1080p resolution lens, 120 fps, and a 110-degree viewing angle. It connects to the console via USB-C, and the lens can be tilted to different angles–though it’s more rigid in this regard since the neck isn’t bendable. You can capture small areas with one or two people in the frame as well as larger rooms with wide view.

The first-party and officially licensed Hori cameras can be activated with the new C button on the Switch 2 Pro Controller, Joy-Con 2, and select officially licensed third-party controllers like the Super Mario- and Pokemon-themed PowerA Advantage Wireless Controllers.

The C button calls GameChat, though the video portion of the new communication suite is optional. With GameChat, you can talk to friends using the Switch 2’s built-in mics, share your gameplay, and video chat (provided you have a camera).

Camera-based gameplay features is available in select games, including Mario Party Jamboree + Jamboree TV.

It’s worth noting the Switch 2 supports select third-party USB-C cameras, including models not technically designed for Switch 2. The console has a “Test USB Camera” feature in the system settings so you can check if your device is supported.

Amazon also has deals on a few other officially licensed Hori accessories for Switch 2, including the recently released Pokemon Eevee Cottage Core Horipad Controller for $32 (was $45), a matching carrying pouch for $24 (was $37), and the Compact Carry All Travel Case for $35 (was $40).

Before you buy one of the Hori carrying cases, we’d recommend checking out the extremely popular RDS Industries Game Traveler Deluxe and PowerA Slim Switch 2 cases. Like Hori’s cases, these are officially licensed by Nintendo. There are three RDS Industries Switch 2 cases on sale, including the Full System Case for $33.24 (was $40) and the Mario Kart World-themed compact case for $20 (was $25).

The PowerA Slim Case has four designs, two of which are discounted to $15: Dark Gray and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.

The aforementioned PowerA Advantage Wireless Controllers for Switch 2 are discounted to $64.87 (was $70). Wired versions of the PowerA Advantage also have the C button for GameChat and come in four different themes, including two Super Mario designs discounted to as low as $28.65 (was $40).

Deals on accessories made by Nintendo are rare, but you can save five bucks on the Switch 2 Joy-Con Wheel Set.
