Another Week, Another Nightmare 2026 won’t quit, and is poised to ruin yet another weekend by forcing sysadmins to patch their systems. As we mentioned in the podcast the cPanel and WHM bugs are bad enough that some hosting companies have blocked ports 2083 and 2087 until patches are installed and verified on their customers sites. We are not sure when these exploits were first discovered and leveraged but attacks have been uncovered dating all the way back to February of this year. This news is not going to make anyone who owns one of the roughly 1.5 million cPanel…
Technicians at NASA’s Payload Hazardous Servicing Facility (PHSF) at the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida offloaded eight high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) wall modules and other ground support equipment on April 27. The equipment will support launch processing of the agency’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope. Each 1,800-pound module enhances the PHSF’s clean room systems, helping meet the telescope’s stringent cleanliness requirements during its time in the facility, where the observatory will undergo key tasks such as spacecraft fueling prior to liftoff. Roman will observe the universe in infrared light using its Wide Field Instrument and a Coronagraph Instrument technology demonstration. Its…
A recent survey from market research firm Circana shows that, as before, the number one reason people use consoles is to play exclusive games not available on other platforms. But the data shows that other factors are nearly as important and, interestingly, exclusive games are becoming less of a reason to buy a PS5 or boot up a Switch 2. In a new installment of The Game Business, published on April 30, reporter Christopher Dring connected dots between new data and previous reporting to make the case that the reason PlayStation and Xbox are seemingly returning to exclusive games, after…
Kalshi also issued a five-year suspension and a penalty of $6,229.30 to independent Mark Moran, a Senate candidate in Virginia, who did not agree to a settlement. “YES, I did bet ~$100 on myself on Kalshi because I wanted to get caught,” Moran wrote in an X post. Moran said he refused a settlement offer that would have compelled him to make a public statement, and that he made the bet to draw attention to Kalshi and his own campaign. “For $100, I just got more attention from CNN, Fox, WSJ, etc than any media consultant ever,” he wrote. “In…
Sharaf Maksumov/Shutterstock Hey, friends. It’s that time again: Bandcamp Friday. You know the drill, if you buy something from the storefront today, 100 percent of the proceeds of your purchase go towards supporting artists. Bandcamp has been running the promotion on-and-off since 2020 when the pandemic saw musicians unable to make a living off of live shows. We’re huge fans here at Engadget and look forward to each and every one as a way to support our favorite artists. If you’re looking for recommendations, the Engadget team is unanimous in its…
NASA announced Friday Janet Petro, center director for the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, is retiring. Prior to joining NASA, Petro worked in a variety of military and industry positions, ultimately beginning her career at the agency in 2007 and working her way up to center director, as well as serving as acting administrator from January to July 2025. “From the outset of her distinguished tenure at NASA, Janet has served as a profoundly influential leader, guiding both the agency and our Kennedy Space Center through some of the most significant transitions in our shared history, including playing a…
Saros has references to Returnal, the last game by developer Housemarque, tucked away in its ever-changing world, which is cool but not necessarily a huge surprise. However, one game I didn’t expect the roguelike bullet hell shooter to nod toward was Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. You won’t find an homage to Sandfall Interactive’s RPG in the environment, but you will find one on your PS5 when you install the game. One of Saros’ trophies is called Carcosan Cartographer, and to unlock it, you’ll have to use the game’s Carcosan Modifiers which let you tweak the difficulty settings to your liking.…
One idea the team floats is that zinc and manganese are limited resources, so scorpions can only reinforce the most critical parts of the stingers instead of spreading the metals across their entire exoskeleton. Going deeper into the reasons behind what appears to be a design flaw in an otherwise neatly built stinger is one thing Campbell wants to focus on in the future. But the team thinks there’s more to learn. “We were using museum specimens, and we only picked one from each species,” Campbell said. The downside of this approach is that the study did not capture variations…
Many CES product announcements leave us hanging for a while on pricing and availability. Today, one of this year’s updated laptop series finally has official pricing and release info. LG’s 2026 Gram models are now available, starting at $1,150 for the base model. The most notable new feature in this year’s Gram laptops is a proprietary aluminum-magnesium alloy. “Aerominum” may sound like a fictional metal from 1970s comic books, but it’s a real, proprietary material that appears to live up to the hype in practice. In Engadget’s CES 2026 hands-on, Devindra Hardawar wrote that his brain “had a hard time computing…
Oura just announced a couple of new features that keep an eye on hormonal health for women. The pre-existing Cycle Insights feature, which tracks menstrual cycles, will now take hormonal birth control methods into consideration. The smart ring maker says that this “first-of-its-kind experience” will help users see how these methods can impact overall biometric data. This has been designed to provide “personalized guidance during complex hormonal changes,” so it can integrate data from over 20 combinations of birth control methods. These include pills, patches, IUDs and implants. Users should be able to use…
