A startup called ReviMo has developed a robotic system that provides a way for people with limited mobility to lift and transfer themselves — like from a bed to a wheelchair, or to the toilet — without the assistance of a caregiver. ReviMo’s Niko has two sets of arms: one that forms a “scooping seat” that slides underneath the person to lift them up, and the other encircling their torso and providing a backrest. It can be operated both by remote and using the controls on its dashboard. Niko in its current iteration can carry up to 250 pounds, but…
In the days following the kidnapping of Venezuela president Nicolás Maduro, members of the Pentagon’s new right-wing influencer press corps weren’t reporting on the operation. Instead, they were enforcing loyalty in a manner similar to the Iraq war bloggers of the early 2000s.On Monday, Laura Loomer tried to crowdsource information on Pentagon press officials who may have leaked information to the mainstream media. “The White House account better be cooking up a sick edit,” Cam Higby, a right-wing influencer and member of the Pentagon press corps, wrote on X Saturday morning, as news of Maduro’s arrest broke. Monica Paige, a…
The case between Rockstar and fired Grand Theft Auto 6 developers who were unionizing gets messier. Discord is secretly preparing for a possible IPO. And Square Enix might ban you if you share Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined spoilers. It’s the latest edition of Morning Checkpoint, Kotaku‘s daily roundup of gaming news and culture. I’m trying to go into this new year by once again limiting my social media intake. There are a lot of cool things that get shared around and I love to see, and also too much of anything will kill you. Curated feeds. Strict time limits. This…
The 9,500-year-old remains of a woman in Malawi have set a new record, marking Africa’s oldest evidence of intentional cremation, as well as the earliest known cremation pyre for an adult that is still “in situ,” or in its original position, a new study finds. The pyre is located at a hunter-gatherer burial ground at the foot of Mount Hora in Malawi, where the burials date to between 8,000 and 16,000 years ago. The pyre is the only known cremation at the site. The analysis of 170 bone fragments from the cremated individual indicated that she stood less than 5 feet…
I’m no psychologist, but I get a sense Segway turned up to CES 2026 with something to prove after last year. Certainly, it’s gone out of its way to prove its micromobility bona fides with the press, who perhaps were a bit too sniffy that scooter people were launching an e-bike. This year, Segway’s not just launching two more mainstream e-bikes, but an electric dirt bike, all of which are crammed with the sort of tech that might just make everyone halt their sniffiness.First up, there’s the Myon, a chunky step-through with a decent-sized pannier rack for folks who want…
On average, the typical American contracts two to three colds per year between September and May, at an estimated cost of around $40 billion to the economy. Effective forms of treating or preventing colds have proven hard to come by, with the majority of over-the-counter medicines yielding modest results; it’s hard to devise a drug that tackles the vast array of viral pathogens that cause them. The need for better respiratory protection during the winter months is clear. It might be found in a practice that dates back thousands of years. The concept of saline nasal irrigation, or bathing the nasal…
Razer, the company best known for its RGB-infused keyboards, cat-ear headsets, and over-priced gaming chairs, has just revealed that its “AI gaming copilot” Project Ava will be used in its latest invention: an AI anime waifu that sits on your desk, named “Kira.” She’ll be powered by Elon Musk’s Grok. The 2026 Consumer Electronics Show kicked off in Las Vegas this week and, unsurprisingly, AI-powered tech is everywhere. Razer announced its AI gaming assistant, Project Ava, at last year’s show, alongside a prerecorded video of the copilot program suggesting tips to help a player navigate a boss fight in Black Myth:…
NASA astronaut Nichole Ayers captured this image of lightning while orbiting aboard the International Space Station more than 250 miles above Milan, Italy on July 1, 2025. Storm observations from space station help scientists study Earth’s upper atmosphere, which can improve weather models and protect communication systems and aircraft. Space station crew take photographs of Earth that record how the planet changes over time due to human activity and natural events. This record allows scientists to monitor disasters and direct response on the ground and study phenomena. Image credit: NASA/Nichole Ayers
I’m fascinated by AI cooking robots which, as far as I’m concerned, automate the one fun bit of cooking. Sadly, it’s far easier to make something that can stir a pan of ingredients as they cook compared to building something that would successfully peel a carrot. Nosh is the latest unit to use CES to announce itself to the world, gearing up for its launch in the next few months. Like its many rivals, you load ingredients into the unit and then Nosh will assemble them for you. Unlike its many rivals, you can have more than one ingredient tray,…
DLSS 4.5 delivers a leap in smoothness with the new 6X Mode of Multi Frame Generation. Powered by the superior image stability of our 2nd generation transformer model, along with improvements in frame pacing and image quality, DLSS 4.5 can generate five additional frames for every single natively rendered one, for a maximum 6X multiplier. This creates the smoothest path-traced gaming yet, unlocking the full potential of 240Hz and 360Hz monitors. On GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs, the shift from 4X to 6X Multi Frame Generation increases 4K frame rates in path-traced titles by up to 35%. Combining this highly…
