OpenAI is opening up its partnership with Microsoft in the latest amendment to the major multi-year collaboration between the tech giants. The latest changes allow OpenAI to offer its latest AI models to other companies and through other cloud providers, stripping Microsoft of its exclusivity rights. In a joint announcement posted on OpenAI and Microsoft’s websites, Microsoft will still be OpenAI’s primary cloud partner with the latest products shipping first on Azure, but OpenAI is now allowed to use any cloud provider. Sam Altman, OpenAI’s CEO, posted on X that the company is “now able to make our products and services…
Elon Musk is boosting a post on X promoting The New Yorker’s extensive investigation into Sam Altman’s allegedly deceptive behavior, WIRED has confirmed. The move comes just as Musk’s lawsuit against OpenAI and Altman heads to a jury trial in a federal courtroom on Monday morning.People scrolling X on Monday reported seeing an April 6 post from Ronan Farrow, a coauthor on the New Yorker article, promoting the investigation. A pop-up on the post on X’s mobile app says it was boosted by @elonmusk, who also owns the platform. Boosting is a feature that allows X subscribers to pay an…
A rock discovered by NASA’s Curiosity Mars rover contains “the most diverse collection” of the building blocks of life ever seen on the Red Planet, including seven never found there before, new research confirms. In 2020, Curiosity discovered and drilled into the rock, which has now been confirmed to contain organic molecules that bear the life-friendly element carbon. While scientists can’t yet prove if the molecules formed due to biological or geologic processes, their findings add new evidence to the theory that ancient Mars was hospitable to life.”Their discovery renewed confirmation that ancient Mars had the right chemistry to support life,”…
Earlier this month, Activision revealed that Peter Berg was set to direct the upcoming Call of Duty movie from Paramount. Ironically, when asked about military video games over a decade ago, he had some harsh words for fans of military shooters like CoD and Battlefield, calling people who play them “pathetic” and “weak.” As first spotted by ResetEra user Neat, Berg sat down for a long interview with Esquire back in 2013, fresh off directing the classic film Battleship. When asked about war games, Berg was brutal and blunt, calling them “pathetic” multiple times. “Pathetic. Pathetic. Keyboard courage,” said Berg…
Don’t mistake the Steam Controller for a PC controller. Even though its main function is to play PC games, Valve’s new gamepad communicates with Steam, and only Steam. This is not a general controller for your PC, Android or iOS devices, and it’s certainly not compatible with any console on the market today, unless you count the handheld Steam Deck. In order to play a game with the Steam Controller, you have to boot it up through Steam. (More on this later).Valve’s end goal for the Steam Controller is compatibility with the Steam Machine, a console that doesn’t yet have…
In a time when almost everything is getting more expensive, this deal on the M5 MacBook Air has me hopeful about how laptop pricing will play out the rest of the year. The M5 MacBook Air has dropped back down to $949, which is $150 off its retail price. It’s only been at this price one other time since the product launched in early March and has more consistently sold for $1,049. As someone who’s reviewed every available MacBook and their strongest competitors, I can unequivocally say that this MacBook Air is one of the very best laptop deals right…
NASA’s X-59 is helping the nation celebrate the 250th anniversary of its independence with an update to its livery – its official paint job and insignia. The one-of-a-kind research aircraft is the centerpiece of NASA’s Quesst mission to demonstrate technology to fly supersonic, or faster than the speed of sound, without generating loud sonic booms. Keep up with X-59 on the NASA Quesst blog. Image credit: NASA/Carla Thomas
Valve’s Steam Controller will hit the market on Monday, May 4, for a going price of $99 in the United States. The Steam Controller does precisely what it says: It communicates with anything running Steam or the Steam Link app, so this includes PCs, Macs, mobile devices and the Steam Deck.Eventually, the Steam Controller will connect to the new Steam Machine console and Steam Frame VR headset, but neither of these products have solid release dates just yet. They were originally slated to come out in early 2026 alongside the Steam Controller, but we’re nearly five months into the year…
April is closing out on some big games that seem to be living up to the hype. Our own review of Saros said Housemarque’s now collected lightning in a bottle twice, following up Returnal with this latest run at the shooter roguelike genre. The way Saros sands off some of Returnal‘s rougher edges might prove divisive, but I’ve been enjoying the trade-offs so far. And Saros is far from the only notable game release this week. We’re also getting Diablo 4‘s second expansion, Lord of Hatred. The action-RPG’s third new class, Warlock, will go live alongside the fresh campaign to take down…
Cole Tomas Allen of Torrance, California, appeared Monday in the US District Court for the District of Columbia to face federal charges stemming from Saturday night’s armed assault on a security checkpoint at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.Magistrate Judge Matthew Sharbaugh ordered Allen held pending a detention hearing Thursday. The suspect, who appeared on a criminal complaint rather than an indictment, was not asked to enter a plea. He faces three federal counts: attempting to assassinate the president, transportation of a firearm in interstate commerce, and discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence.Allen, 31, is a Caltech-trained mechanical…
