Hot on the heels of its recent GPT-5.5 release, OpenAI is updating ChatGPT’s default model to GPT-5.5 Instant. OpenAI touts GPT-5.5 as producing 52.5 percent fewer hallucinated claims in internal testing, and 37.3 percent fewer inaccurate claims when taking on conversations ChatGPT users had flagged for factual errors. At the same time, OpenAI says it designed the new model to generate more direct responses, “while keeping the warmth and personality that makes ChatGPT enjoyable to use.” GPT-5.5 Instant is also allegedly better at asking fewer unnecessary followup questions and should generate less cluttered outputs,…
“The characters are powerful—the stories are powerful—because of the emotional connection that comes with those stories and with the character…The iconography that comes with it—the bat, the cowl, the bat signal—really hits home.” This is what Jonathan Smith, Strategic Director & Head of Development Team at TT Games, tells me when I ask about the emotional element of Batman stories. I had just finished an hours-long preview of the new Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, and while I had a great time, I came away unsure of how this quality might come through. Smith tells me it’s there,…
A low resting heart rate is often seen as a sign of good health, but now, a large study suggests that both very low and very high heart rates may be linked to an increased risk of stroke. The findings, presented May 6 at the European Stroke Organisation Conference 2026 in Maastricht, Netherlands, are based on data from nearly 460,000 people whose data is included in the UK Biobank, a large repository of health data from U.K. adults. On average, each person was monitored for 14 years, and researchers recorded more than 12,000 cases of stroke among the participants. The researchers identified…
Google launched its big AI-fueled redesign of Google Home late last year, and it has been adding features here and there ever since. Today, the company announced a bigger update that might take care of some of your smart home woes. Camera feeds will be easier to navigate, and the AI event labeling should be more straightforward. The move to Gemini 3.1 for Home voice assistance should also mean the robot is less obtuse and more reliable. According to Google, Home users who have signed up for the early access channel should already have the update to Gemini 3.1. Google…
Google Google is continuing to revamp its smart home app and the latest change includes an update to the camera experience. Among other things, the company says that it has refreshed the user interface of Google Home to allow for faster navigation and smoother scrubbing through videos, with the aim of giving you a look at the broader picture of what your cameras pick up. For instance, you’ll be able to filter and sort events by factors such as “Person seen,” “Package seen,” “Glass break heard”. Thumbnail previews are now…
The idea of GameStop buying eBay is widely considered an absolutely dreadful one, but just in case anyone was still on the fence, GameStop CEO Ryan Cohen gave an interview to CNBC that went so badly it left the hosts, and any viewers, dumbfounded. The core question behind this deeply peculiar move by GameStop is where the company could possibly get the money. Cohen’s answer? Yeah, still waiting on that, because he genuinely didn’t seem to understand the question. GameStop is currently valued at a pretty spurious $11 billion, while eBay is roughly $47 billion. In a rational world, the…

In a brief appearance at a Make America Healthy Again Institute event Monday, anti-vaccine Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced new federal initiatives to curb prescribing of antidepressants, which he has long attacked with false and dangerous claims. Mental health experts have previously condemned his rhetoric and are already pushing back on his new efforts. The MAHA event was focused on “overmedicalization,” with participants broadly alleging—without evidence—that too many Americans, particularly youths, are overprescribed antidepressants in the class of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs. This class includes common medications such as Zoloft, Prozac, Paxil, and Lexapro, which are…
It looks like new Call of Duty games will no longer be coming to last-gen platforms like the PS4 and Xbox One, requiring franchise fans to purchase expensive newer consoles. The official brand recently posted to social media that the “next Call of Duty is not being developed for PS4.” The post didn’t specifically mention Xbox One, but I’m not sure why a developer would waste resources on the less popular of the two. Call of Duty was one of the last big franchises developing for the aging console generation. The previous entry, Call…
It has taken a long time, but Apple seems to be settling into its AI strategy at last and the key seems to be offering options. According to the latest report from Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, Apple plans to let users pick from a lineup of third-party models when asking their devices to perform generative AI tasks. This change is planned to arrive in iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27, sources told the publication. AI companies that opt in and add support to their App Store programs will be available to power Apple’s…
