When the first trailer for the upcoming Resident Evil movie hit the internet earlier today, the reaction was about what you would expect for a film that seems devoid of any main franchise characters. Some people were excited. And some people were disappointed. But according to director and writer Zach Cregger (Weapons, Barbarian) he didn’t want to retell Leon’s story or the events of a past game because it would be “redundant” and likely “disappointing.” In a new interview with the Official PlayStation Blog, Cregger mentioned not once, but twice, that this movie isn’t an adaptation of a specific game…

Sam Rutherford for Engadget The ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X are getting a few convenient quality of life upgrades. Probably the most notable change is that the ROG Ally X will be getting Automatic Super Resolution. Also known as Auto SR, this tech helps bridge the gap between the better framerates of a performance mode and the better visuals of a graphics mode. Auto SR will let the docked handheld offer “1440p-like detail alongside smooth framerates on larger screens,” according to Xbox’s blog post. The setting can…
Amazon Rejoice: The Amazon app now lets you ask real shopping questions to its fake podcasters — it’s an addition to the “Hear the highlights” AI feature the company introduced last year. Before, the short audio summaries were generated from an unalterable script. Now, the dialogue can adapt to your spoken or typed questions. Amazon says Hear the Highlights is now available for “millions of products” in the company’s mobile app. You’ll see a button beneath the product image for supported listings. Choosing this will launch a short (usually a…

In a world first, Apple’s commercially lackluster Vision Pro virtual reality headset was successfully used to help perform a cataract surgery. New England-based surgeon Dr. Eric Rosenberg of SightMD claims he used the $3,499 device alongside a custom-built app called ScopeXR to assist with a surgery in October 2025. Dr. Rosenberg claims he’s used the device to help with hundreds of other patients ever since. The app allows for remote collaboration, so additional doctors, consultants, or even medical students in other rooms or cities…
Following a three-decade career at the helm of some of Silicon Valley’s most powerful companies—cofounding LinkedIn and sitting on the boards of PayPal and OpenAI—Reid Hoffman recently turned his attention to health care.Hoffman’s startup, Manas AI, is building an AI engine that aims to fast-track the traditionally slow process of drug discovery for various cancers. Inspired by a dinner with renowned cancer physician Siddhartha Mukherjee, the company’s cofounder and CEO, its mission statement is to “shift drug discovery from a decade-long process to one that takes a few years.”But Hoffman’s enthusiasm for generative AI, in particular, stretches far beyond novel…
We just got our first look at Zach Cregger’s upcoming Resident Evil movie, set to release later this year on September 18. However, while this may be our first look at a trailer, it’s not our first look at the contents of the film itself, as everything in today’s trailer lines up with the script that leaked at the start of March. In case you missed it, a rather official-looking script, supposedly penned by Cregger himself, randomly popped up on 4chan on March 6. As with all 4chan leaks, the internet collectively decided to take it with a huge grain…
One of the greatest real-time strategy games ever is making its way to macOS (again). Publisher Feral Interactive announced today it will bring Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition to Apple computers through Steam on May 28, with an App Store release to follow later this year. Feral worked with World’s Edge, the studio that has managed the Age of Empires franchise for Microsoft since 2019, to develop the port. Like its PC counterpart, the Definitive Edition on Mac will include content from AoE2’s original Age of Kings release alongside its highly regarded The…
The flyer on a pole in San Francisco was very straightforward, if a little bewildering. It read, “Seeking New Polycule Member: We recently had a defector in our polycule and are seeking a new member.”A link at the bottom invited anyone interested to apply to join a polycule—a group of cohabitating adults all in a consensual romantic relationship. The ad seemed almost normal at first, inviting applicants to join a “fun-loving, diverse, ragtag bunch of lover people.” The more you read, the weirder it gets. The link went to an application page hosted on Notion, where responders could share information…

A YouTuber armed with a 1988 Ford Festiva and a workshop full of lasers may have created the world’s thinnest street-legal car—-though it required some serious work to get it there. Tyler Fever, who runs the YouTube channel Prop Department, took the already tiny Festiva and chopped it to pieces, ultimately creating a roughly shopping-cart-sized contraption that resembles something out of The Flintstones. Somehow, Fever even managed to fit two seats into that tiny vehicle. More surprisingly still, he claims he managed to get…
