In a world first, Apple’s commercially lackluster Vision Pro virtual reality headset was successfully used to help perform a cataract surgery. New England-based surgeon Dr. Eric Rosenberg of SightMD claims he used the $3,499 device alongside a custom-built app called ScopeXR to assist with a surgery in October 2025. Dr. Rosenberg claims he’s used the device to help with hundreds of other patients ever since. The app allows for remote collaboration, so  additional doctors, consultants, or even medical students in other rooms or cities…

Following a three-decade career at the helm of some of Silicon Valley’s most powerful companies—cofounding LinkedIn and sitting on the boards of PayPal and OpenAI—Reid Hoffman recently turned his attention to health care.Hoffman’s startup, Manas AI, is building an AI engine that aims to fast-track the traditionally slow process of drug discovery for various cancers. We just got our first look at Zach Cregger’s upcoming Resident Evil movie, set to release later this year on September 18. However, while this may be our first look at a trailer, it’s not our first look at the contents of the film itself, as everything in today’s trailer lines up with the script that leaked at the start of March. In case you missed it, a rather official-looking script, supposedly penned by Cregger himself, randomly popped up on 4chan on March 6. As with all 4chan leaks, the internet collectively decided to take it with a huge grain…

The flyer on a pole in San Francisco was very straightforward, if a little bewildering. It read, “Seeking New Polycule Member: We recently had a defector in our polycule and are seeking a new member.”A link at the bottom invited anyone interested to apply to join a polycule—a group of cohabitating adults all in a consensual romantic relationship. The ad seemed almost normal at first, inviting applicants to join a “fun-loving, diverse, ragtag bunch of lover people.” The more you read, the weirder it gets. The link went to an application page hosted on Notion, where responders could share information…

A YouTuber armed with a 1988 Ford Festiva and a workshop full of lasers may have created the world’s thinnest street-legal car—-though it required some serious work to get it there. Tyler Fever, who runs the YouTube channel Prop Department, took the already tiny Festiva and chopped it to pieces, ultimately creating a roughly shopping-cart-sized contraption that resembles something out of The Flintstones. Somehow, Fever even managed to fit two seats into that tiny vehicle. More surprisingly still, he claims he managed to get…

Fumbling your fave in a Persona game is a rite of passage. (For many, at least; they don’t let you be gay in those games, so I’m not even trying.) Now pop artist Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye has learned firsthand what it’s like to miss out on a baddie as he documents his failed attempt to woo Tae Takemi, the goth doctor in Persona 5. Tesfaye has been playing Persona 5 Royal and posting about it on his Instagram alt account @gene.hackerman (thanks, Polygon), and fans of Atlus’ social sim RPGs have been tuning in like it’s their daytime soap…

Amy Sparwasser/Getty Images The Senate Judiciary Committee has unanimously approved a bipartisan bill aimed at requiring AI companies to limit chatbot use among minors. The proposed legislation would mandate age verification systems for chatbots as well as prohibiting AI companions for minors and blocking the services from showing younger users sexually explicit content or encouraging self-harm. The bill was co-sponsored by Senators Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT). Committee approval is just a preliminary step toward AI companies facing any real federal regulation on this subject. But the unanimous…

Stalkerware allows people to secretly spy on romantic partners, family members or other associates by infecting a target’s phone and then silently amassing their text messages, photos, location information, and other data. The malware is profoundly intrusive in and of itself, but digital rights advocates have long cautioned that on top of violating victims’ personal privacy, it also creates an additional risk that data gathered using spyware could then separately be breached by an additional, unrelated actor, creating a true privacy disaster. New research this week illustrates one such example of a true worst-case scenario. In findings released on Thursday, a…

Subnautica 2 was originally supposed to enter Early Access on Steam sometime in the second half of 2025. Instead, it was delayed by publisher Krafton to avoid a $250 million bonus payout to the cofounders of the studio making it, Unknown Worlds. A messy power struggle and complex legal battle ensued, with a judge recently ordering Krafton to put the launch plans back in the hands of the studio. Did this unexpected delay end up hurting the most-wishlisted game on Steam? “I always am a fan of launching earlier and earlier,” Subnautica 2‘s lead designer, Anthony Gallegos, recently told Polygon.…
