Lenovo is arguably the only major PC brand that’s going all-in on rollable laptop displays. After debuting the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable AI PC at CES 2025 and shipping it commercially in June, the company is looking to expand the lineup with a new model at CES 2026. According to Windows Latest, Lenovo is planning to show off the new ThinkPad Rollable XD Concept PC in January. Like its predecessor, the Rollable XD plays with the idea of a screen that can physically change size. It will feature a 13.3-inch display in standard mode, but can expand vertically into…
The nervous system does an astonishing job of tracking sensory information, and does so using signals that would drive many computer scientists insane: a noisy stream of activity spikes that may be transmitted to hundreds of additional neurons, where they are integrated with similar spike trains coming from still other neurons. Now, researchers have used spiking circuitry to build an artificial robotic skin, adopting some of the principles of how signals from our sensory neurons are transmitted and integrated. While the system relies on a few decidedly not-neural features, it has the advantage that we have chips that can run…
Valve has revealed the official list of best-selling games on Steam for 2025. They include everything you’d expect, plus a few surprises. Monster Hunter Wilds ended up beating out Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and others for a spot in the top dozen, despite being recently labeled as one of the worst PC ports of the year by Digital Foundry. Here’s the full list of the top 24 best-selling Steam games, broken up into two sections. The games within the sections are in no particular order. First, the top 12: Monster Hunter Wilds Elden Ring Nightreign The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion…
After a rudderless year and an exodus of around 4,000 employees due to Trump administration cuts, NASA got what may be its first piece of good news recently. On December 17, the Senate confirmed billionaire Jared Isaacman as the agency’s new administrator. He now holds the power to rehabilitate a battered engine of scientific research, or steer it towards even more disruption.Considering the caliber of President Trump’s other appointees, Isaacman is probably the best candidate for the job. Outside of being a successful entrepreneur, he has flown fighter jets and been to space twice as part of the Inspiration4 and…
In March 2019, researchers off the coast of southwestern Australia witnessed a gruesome scene: a dozen orcas ganging up on one of the biggest creatures on Earth to kill it. The orcas devoured huge chunks of flesh from the flanks of an adult blue whale, which died an hour later. This was the first-ever documented case of orca-on-blue-whale predation, but it wouldn’t be the last.In recent months, orcas (Orcinus orca) have also been spotted abducting baby pilot whales and tearing open sharks to feast on their livers. And off the coast of Spain and Portugal, a small population of orcas…

Yakisugi is a Japanese architectural technique for charring the surface of wood. It has become quite popular in bioarchitecture because the carbonized layer protects the wood from water, fire, insects, and fungi, thereby prolonging the lifespan of the wood. Yakisugi techniques were first codified in written form in the 17th and 18th centuries. But it seems Italian Renaissance polymath Leonardo da Vinci wrote about the protective benefits of charring wood surfaces more than 100 years earlier, according to a paper published in Zenodo, an open repository for EU funded research. Check the notes As previously reported, Leonardo produced more than…
For years, LG has kicked off CES press day with the first event of the morning — and 2026 will be no different. The Korea-based corporation is theming its presentation as “Innovation in Tune with You,” and — if it follows the template of past presentations — it will highlight both the consumer electronics and large appliance sides of its mammoth global businesses.Like nearly all tech-centric events these days, expect AI to be the binding theme of the LG presentation at CES 2026. Just be aware that, like Apple, LG has its own customized abbreviation for AI: “Affectionate Intelligence.” The…
One of the worst things you can do on the internet is have an opinion about Star Wars, which is why I’m usually content to nod in approval when Star Wars is good (rarely) and shake my head when it is not (all the time). Am I going to divulge which Star War is which? Absolutely not. But even though there are dwindling reasons to look forward to new Star Wars, I don’t quite have it in me to quit the stuff yet. As this holiday season marks ten years since Star Wars: The Force Awakens arrived in theaters, I…
2025 marks another year pushing the boundaries of scientific research aboard the International Space Station. This past year, over 750 investigations were conducted aboard the space station, supported by crewed missions and resupply vehicles delivering essential cargo and experiments to the orbiting laboratory. This year’s research included testing DNA’s ability to store data, producing vital nutrients on demand, demonstrating technology for space debris removal and satellite maintenance, advancing next-generation medicines, and more. Astronauts visited the space station from across the globe to continue research benefiting humanity on Earth and paving the way for future exploration missions, including NASA’s Artemis program…
