The Department of Justice has announced that it’s intervening on the behalf of xAI in the company’s recent lawsuit against the state of Colorado. xAI first filed the suit in early April in response to a recent Colorado law that requires developers of “high-risk” AI systems (for example, ones used in healthcare, employment or housing) to both disclose and mitigate the risk of algorithmic discrimination in their systems. It looks like Nubia is getting ready for another refresh in its gaming phone lineup. The RedMagic 11s Pro has now appeared in a certification listing, which usually means things are moving toward a launch. The listing comes from Thailand’s NBTC and confirms the name along with the model number NX809J. There’s no mention of specs there, which isn’t unusual, but it’s enough to confirm the device is on the way. What’s slightly confusing is the model number. NX809J has been linked before to the RedMagic 11 Pro. And if you remember, when the 11 Pro launched globally, it already…

Moderna’s mRNA-based combination vaccine against both flu and COVID-19 has gotten the green light in Europe—but it continues to be shelved in the US, where it was developed. This week, the European Commission authorized Moderna to market the vaccine, mRNA-1083 or mCOMBRIAX, making it the world’s first authorized combination shot for the two respiratory viruses. The decision follows a positive review in February from a key European Medicines Agency’s committee, which paved the way for the approval. Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel welcomed the news. “By combining protection against two significant respiratory viruses in a single dose, our vaccine aims to…

El Niño is forecast to return as early as May, which could bring above-normal temperatures to almost everywhere on Earth, according to a new report.El Niño events occur every two to seven years as part of the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) natural climate cycle in the Pacific Ocean. I’ve used ChatGPT to help me build a budget before, and it was genuinely helpful. After I input my monthly salary as well as my standard utilities and recurring expenses, the chatbot drafted a few solid options, and I tweaked them into penny-pinching perfection. I’m admittedly part of the growing number of people turning to chatbots, like Anthropic’s Claude, Google’s Gemini, and OpenAI’s ChatGPT, for financial advice.“Millions of people turn to ChatGPT with money-related questions, from understanding debt to building budgets and learning financial concepts,” says Niko Felix, an OpenAI spokesperson, when reached for comment. “ChatGPT can be a helpful…

Catastrophic water shortages are in store for the 40 million people living in areas fed by the Colorado River, even if cities in the region such as Denver, Phoenix and Las Vegas make dramatic cuts to their usage, recent research suggests.Water shortages could start as soon as this summer, as snowpack levels reached a record low over Lake Powell and the spring runoff into the Colorado River is expected to be minimal, experts told Live Science.
