4:3 @ 480i With Menus Reminiscent Of A VCR
Like many of us, Anthony Caccese likes to occasionally watch his favourite old shows and has noticed that they just aren’t the same on widescreen with high definition. The specific example was ST:TNG which, when viewed in widescreen, reveals a lot of the set that should never be seen by viewers and ruins the enjoyment of watching it. Well, with a Raspberry Pi and Anthony’s open-source 240-MP project which you can get from GitHub you can watch your favourite old shows as they should be seen.
The experience would be best enjoyed on an old CRT, but even if you can’t get your hands on one you can still watch those shows at their original aspect ration and resolution. To make things even more fun, while you do use a mouse and keyboard to interact with 240-MP the menus will remind you of the old VHS tapes you once recorded those shows on. The name 240-MP is a pun off of that old media type, if you don’t quite get why then read on.
