There is now a demo for In The Black, a space combat game in Early Access, developed by people who also brought us Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance and MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries. You should definitely check out the demo if you are interested as the reviews have been quite mixed thanks to the rather buggy state of the game. It is first and foremost a space combat sim, so there doesn’t seem to be any overarching story, instead it’s a series of missions as well as some free play options to let you test out ship designs without risk of losing…
Anthropic and Elon Musk’s SpaceX said on Wednesday that the two entities have signed an agreement for Anthropic to use computing resources from xAI’s data center in Memphis, Tennessee. It’s the latest tie up in an industry that is scrambling to find enough computers to run complex AI software. SpaceX and xAI were previously separate companies, but the two merged earlier this year. The combined entity, also owned by Musk, is called SpaceXAI.Anthropic executives made the announcement on stage at the company’s annual developer conference in San Francisco. SpaceXAI also put out a blog post sharing more details about the…
jackpress/Shutterstock Anthropic and SpaceX have struck a deal to allow the company behind Claude to use xAI’s Colossus 1 data center. As a result, Anthropic is doubling the rate limits for paid users of Claude Code and loosening other limits, the company said. The arrangement with SpaceX allows Anthropic to use “all the compute capacity” at SpaceX’s Colossus 1 data center, which will add more than 300 megawatts of new capacity “within the month.” Anthropic also recently struck deals with Amazon and Google. As part of the deal, Anthropic has…
Mina the Hollower was supposed to be out last October, but it got delayed at the last minute as Shovel Knight maker Yacht Club Games pulled out all the stops to try to make its upcoming retro mash-up of Castlevania and Link’s Awakening as good a game as possible. It’s now back with a new release date that’s just around the corner and I’m looking forward to it more than ever. The new day of reckoning is May 29. Mina the Hollower will bring its top-down dungeon combat and puzzles to consoles and PC for just $20. That’s the unofficial…
Why Won’t Anyone Think Of The Streisand Effect? Microsoft is living in it’s own world and loves reminding their customers of this fact for some strange reason. They inject AI into things in Win11 which make absolutely no sense, such as Notepad, and are then baffled by the negative feedback of users who were never asked if this was something they wanted. They make it harder to set up a local Win11 machine, guaranteeing a system spends a fair amount of time on the net without protection during setup. They also unloaded the burden of beta testing to their users…
Using AI chatbots for even just for 10 minutes may have a shockingly negative impact on people’s ability to think and problem-solve, according to a new study from researchers at Carnegie Mellon, MIT, Oxford, and UCLA.Researchers tasked people with solving various problems, including simple fractions and reading comprehension, through an online platform that paid them for their work. They conducted three experiments, each involving several hundred people. Some participants were given access to an AI assistant capable of solving the problem autonomously. When the AI helper was suddenly taken away, these people were significantly more likely to give up on…
The company behind the long-running space sim Eve Online has entered into a partnership with Google in which the search giant will take a minority stake. In exchange, Google’s DeepMind will train its AI technology on the game, according to a report by Bloomberg. CCP Games, the dev who made and maintains Eve Online, has also been rebranded as Fenris Creations. This happened just after the company purchased the rights to the game back from Korean developer Pearl Abyss. Google’s investment is “in the millions” of dollars, according to Fenris Creations Chief Executive Officer…
Electronic Arts just wrapped its last year as a publicly traded company with a new sales record. Control 2 is on track and not over-budget. The latest milestone on Microsoft’s “return to Xbox” road map is a new boot logo. It’s your Kotaku Checkpoint roundup for May 6, 2026, where we are getting to know a new member of the Xbox team who has a great Guitar Hero analogy for AI. GameStop’s cosmic-brain CEO Ryan Cohen recently went on the OpenAI-owned TBPN network to do damage control on his eBay takeover bid after going on CNBC and sounding like he’d…
Anthropic just announced a new feature called “Dreaming” at the company’s developer conference in San Francisco. It’s part of Anthropic’s recently launched AI agent infrastructure designed to help users manage and deploy tools that automate software processes. This “dreaming” aspect sorts through the transcript of what an agent recently completed and attempts to glean insights to improve the agent’s performance.Folks using AI agents often send them on multi-step journeys, like visiting a few websites or reading multiple files, to complete online tasks. This new “dreaming” feature allows agents to look for patterns in their activity log and improve their abilities…
Back in 2022 we first reported on the news that a consumer rights group in the UK was attempting to launch the British equivalent of a class action lawsuit (it’s the same but with more “u”s) against Sony on the basis that the company charges a 30-percent commission fee on all digital purchases with no option for competition. After failing to get the multi-billion dollar “PlayStation You Owe Us” lawsuit thrown out in 2023, Sony’s time in court comes to an end this week. And if this all sounds very familiar, yes, it was only this weekend that Sony lost…
