If you use AT&T, Verizon, or T-Mobile, the Supreme Court just settled a fight that has been hanging over your location data for two years. On Thursday (June 4), the court ruled 8-1 that the Federal Communications Commission can fine the carriers for mishandling that data without giving them a jury trial first. The penalties go back to the FCC’s finding that the carriers sold access to real-time customer location data to third-party aggregators, who then resold it down the chain. AT&T was fined about $57 million and Verizon roughly $47 million, and the two cases combined for more than $100…
It’s been a minute since we’ve heard from inXile Entertainment about Clockwork Revolution, the studio’s upcoming action game that mixes the steampunk feel of a BioShock with the RPG qualities the maker of Wasteland 3 is known for. A new gameplay reveal at Xbox’s summer showcase gave us our best look yet at what you’ll actually do in the game, as well as the news that it’s releasing in 2027 as an Xbox console exclusive. Clockwork Revolution takes place in Avalon, an industrial city powered by an underworld of competing crime bosses. Players take control of Morgan Vanette, a character…
Payments used to be simpler from a developer’s point of view. You connected a gateway, sent a transaction, waited for the response, and handled the result. That model does not scale very well in 2026. Modern online businesses often operate across several countries, currencies, payment methods, acquirers, fraud tools, customer segments, and reporting systems. A single payment flow might involve cards, digital wallets, local payment methods, 3DS, fraud screening, retries, routing rules, settlement logic, and reconciliation. Managing all of that through one provider is rarely practical. That is where payment orchestration becomes useful. A payment orchestration platform sits between your…
I bought into the Pixel world with my eyes open, and I daily carry a Pixel 10 Pro Fold, so I know the routine by now. I have also used an iPhone Air in my rotation, so I am not exactly blind to the ways that Google operates. Google ships a neat Pixel-only toy, I play with it for a week during the honeymoon, and then it quietly disappears.Pixel Studio is the latest one to go, and the strange part is that I won’t miss it at all. That is precisely why this one bothers me.Google is shutting down Pixel…
Gears of War: E-Day is the next mainline entry in the popular Xbox franchise. But this isn’t a sequel to Gears 5. Instead, this upcoming installment takes the series back in time and shows players the beginning of the conflict with the Locust on Emergence Day and all the chaos that followed. During today’s big Xbox Showcase, developer The Coalition shared more about the game and what to expect. And then, even more details were shared in a lengthy Xbox Wire post. Here are eight key takeaways that you should know about. See how Emergence Day destroyed one city, Kalona…
Similar to Marvel superheroes who have remarkable powers, AI possesses its own set of “superpowers,” with self-learning being arguably the most impactful. For many, autonomous learning is like a mysterious black box: we see what goes in and what comes out, but the inner workings are often hidden. In this article, we tackle this puzzle by exploring PyTorch, a widely used machine learning algorithm, aiming to clarify how it learns and updates itself. PyTorch is an open-source framework for building, training, and deploying deep learning models. It uses optimizers such as SGD or Adam to update model weights via gradients…
On Friday, news broke of the passing of actor Anthony Head at 72, best known for his portrayal of Watcher/father figure Rupert Giles on the supernatural drama Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Fans and former costars alike flooded social media with outpourings of appreciation for his talent and grief at his death. Head certainly had a thriving career after Buffy: he played Uther Pendragon ins the series Merlin; the Prime Minister in Little Britain; a sinister headmaster in the Doctor Who episode “School Reunion”; and of course, the wealthy, entitled Rupert Mannion in Ted Lasso. But Giles remains his definitive role;…
Near the end of last month, we listed the Pixel phones that will receive Android 17 this summer. As we pointed out in that story, this year will be the last one where all Pixels powered by a Tensor application processor (AP) get the new Android update. That’s because this October, Google will drop support for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The Pixel 6a will lose its Google support in July 2027.Last month we asked you which of these Pixel models was your favoriteWhen we posted the article that included the list, we asked you to choose your…
For me, one of the best surprises at today’s Xbox showcase was the game Vivarium, a new slice-of-life game that looks like a gorgeous early ’90s anime. This is so dang cute! From what I can piece together here, this is a game about a world condensed inside an abandoned terrarium, and in that world lives a child named Jenny in a rural town filled with nature. Jenny does a lot of exploring in and around the town, and finds a tree sprout that she’s hoping will grow quickly. There are adorable anthropomorphic animal townspeople, seemingly some sort of farming…
I’m learning Laravel for my full-time job, and I’ve found that the best way I retain things is by building something real while I’m still figuring it out. Not a polished side project. Not a “look what I made” showcase. Just me, a terminal, and a lot of “wait, why did that work?” This is one of those articles. The project is a Task Management API, a simple backend that can create, read, update, and delete tasks. No frontend. No authentication (yet). Just a clean JSON API that taught me more about Laravel’s core concepts than any documentation page ever…
