When it comes to audio systems at CES, held January 6–9 in Las Vegas, we always hope to find new ways companies have found to make music feel bigger without making your life harder. Sometimes that means earbuds you pull out of your pocket to pull previously unheard details out of tracks. Sometimes that means a wireless headset that considers limited bandwidth a personal insult. Sometimes that means portable speakers that can outlast (and outlive) the wildest party. And sometimes it’s a quiet suite for people who still believe…
“I want to get this card graded,” my kid said to me yesterday about a full-art Furret he particularly loves. I looked at it closely, and pointing to a white fleck about half a millimeter in diameter on the top border I said, “It’s probably not worth it.” Such is the ridiculous standard required for grading Pokémon cards to a level that makes them valuable. Which makes it all the more surprising that someone just paid $550 for a Gold Star Charizard (thanks WarGamer!) in such bad condition that it looks like it spent most of its last 19 years lying…
If you saw Lenovo’s Legion Go 2 launch last year and thought, “I’ll wait for the SteamOS version,” well, you’ll have to wait a little longer. But at least now it’s official. At CES 2026, the company revealed the Legion Go 2, Powered by SteamOS. The Valve-friendly variant of the gaming handheld arrives in June, starting at a pricey $1,199.There aren’t any surprises here. It’s the same Lenovo Legion Go 2 hardware, with SteamOS replacing the sometimes-awkward Windows. In many ways, you could view the SteamOS Legion Go 2 as a more powerful and versatile (and expensive!) Steam Deck. One…
In October, Ørsted raised $9 billion from investors in a rights issue after Trump’s attempts to block a rival developer’s project spooked investors. The US government then issued a stop-work order against the company’s $1.5 billion Revolution Wind project off the coast of Rhode Island, although Ørsted has persuaded a judge to lift the order. In November, Ørsted agreed to sell half of the world’s largest offshore wind farm to Apollo in a $6.5 billion deal. Then on December 22, the company received orders from the US government to suspend “all ongoing activities on the outer continental shelf for the next…

How many more copies does Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles need to sell before Square Enix greenlights a new grid-based strategy RPG? Almost three years later, physical versions of Hi-Fi Rush are finally up for pre-order. And how long will it take for Netflix to turn Arc Raiders into its next streaming hit? It’s the latest edition of Morning Checkpoint, Kotaku‘s daily roundup of gaming news and culture. Depending on what you’re into, January will probably feel like a slow month for big new game releases, at least compared to last year. But I’m getting lowkey hyped for Code…
That gives those individual pixels time to fully transition from one color to the next before they’re illuminated, meaning viewers don’t perceive those pixels fading from one color as they do on a traditional G-Sync monitor. It also means those old pixels don’t persist as long on the viewer’s retina, increasing the “apparent refresh rate” above the monitor’s actual refresh rate, according to Nvidia. An Asus illustration highlights how G-Sync Pulsar uses strobing to limit the persistence of old frames on your retina. Marine biologists believe the world’s longest-living vertebrate often reaches over 400 years old, and possibly lives even longer. But while the shark isn’t known for its vision, a lot could be learned from the deep-sea predator’s eyes. According to new research recently published in the journal Nature Communications, the Greenland shark retained its visual organs throughout millions of years of evolution for a reason. The explanations of why its eyes have stayed the same may…
If the world didn’t already have one too many digital assistants, Lenovo is adding another one to the pile. On Tuesday evening, the company announced Qira, a cross-device AI for both its own computers and Motorola smartphones. Set to arrive later this quarter, it will live at the system level of Lenovo devices. Users won’t need to open or switch to the assistant. Instead, “it’s always present,” says Lenovo.Of course, you can ignore Qira, and it will stay quiet if you don’t need the software to do anything for you. Occasionally, Lenovo says Qira will surface proactive suggestions, and for…
